Rousseau in the context of Western rhetorical tradition

In the core of the article is the idea of intimate relation between Rousseau"s oeuvre and Western rhetorical heritage. Self-taught Rousseau rethink many classical rhetorical techniques and apply them in a text, in particular — in the Confessions, the masterpiece which is much alike the monologue of a speaker with its classical rhetorical concepts of “ethos” and "pathos" borrowed from Aristotle.
