Abstract

The subject of this essay is the role of Odysseus in Nietzsche’s middle and late works from The Dawn to Genealogy of Morals and posthumous fragments from 1888. The analysis shows a subtle connection between Nietzsche’s interpretation of this figure and some of his major philosophical concepts, such as higher man, perspectivism, ressentiment, active and passive nihilism and will to power.
