For contributors
I. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
1. The manuscript.
Manuscripts are to be submitted for publication via e-mail hopybook@iphras.ru.
1.1. Types of accepted materials. The following types of manuscripts are considered for publication in the HPY: research articles, analytical literature reviews, archival materials, book reviews, scholarly translations. All submissions should be in line with the HPY’s subject matter, i.e. history of philosophy. Submitted manuscript’s inconsistency with the subject matter of the journal or the type of material to be published will be grounds for declining the manuscript.
1.2. File format. The manuscripts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format (should have the extension *.doc, *.docx, or *.rtf).
1.3. Manuscript volume. Recommended volume of the manuscript: 20000–60000 characters (including abstract, author information and list of references). The volume of book reviews should not exceed 10000 characters.
1.4. The languages of the publication: Russian, English and German.
1.5. Format of manuscript text.
— Font: "Times New Roman".
—The size of the title is 14; The font size of the main text and subheadings is 12; the font size of the footnotes is 10.
— Line spacing is 1.5.
— Paragraph indent is 0.9.
— Margins of 2.5 cm are on all sides of the page.
— Paragraph indents, text centering, numbered and bulleted lists and footnotes are only done automatically. No hyphenation is applied (either manually or automatically).
— For citations use Chicago referencing style, 17th edition, the notes and bibliography system (https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html). The citation is given in a footnote — in full if the source is cited for the first time; in a shortened form for the second time and thereafter. The form of the bibliographical entry is in some ways different from the form of the citation in footnote (see the "References" section below).
— Citations of large volume (more than 10 words) should be highlighted in the text of the article with an increased indent.
— In English manuscripts use “English double typographic” as the main type of quotation marks and ‘English single typographic’ for quotation within quotation.
In German manuscripts use „German double“ as the main type of quotation marks and ‚German single‘ as for quotation within quotation.
In Russian manuscripts use «Guillemets» as the main type of quotation marks and “English double typographic” for quotation within quotation.
— Use ' – ' sign, aka "middle dash" (en dash, U+2013) as a dash as well as between the range boundaries (for example, "pages 99–101"; "427–347 BC", etc.). Use hyphens (' - ') only within words.
— Do not include a space between initials ("G.E.L. Owen", not "G. E. L. Owen")
— All repeated spaces and unnecessary line breaks should be removed from the text (using Microsoft Word's "find and replace" function).
— For typing in ancient and Eastern languages, fonts that comply with the Unicode standard must be used.
— For English texts or parts of text (e.g. abstracts) you may choose to use either British (authorise, colour, defence etc.) or American (authorize, color, defense etc.) orthopgraphy, but should use it consistently throught the text (you should not spell words both in British (e.g. "colour") and American (e.g. "defense") spellings in the same text).
2. Structure of the manuscript
The text structure should follow the template below (it may change depending on the type of the work).
2.1. Metadata
Article title. The title of the article should fully reflect the subject matter and theme of the article, as well as its main objective (issue).
Authors and affiliations. For each author, the following should be provided:
First Name (or Initials); Last Name (in that order)
Place of work (official full name of the institution)
Full adress (of the insitution)
The author's email address
Example:

ivanov@mail.ru
Abstract. The abstract should briefly summarize the content of the manuscript. It preferable for it to identifiy the problem on which the author of the text is working, and the specifics of the approach to its solution. Recommended abstract length: from 100 to 250 words (but no more than 300).
Keywords. Between 3 and 10 keywords that reflect the main themes and issues of the article.
With the exception of proper names, keywords are should start a lowercase letter; they should be separated by commas; there should be no dot at the end of the list.
2.3. Full text
— The article can be written in Russian, English or German.
— We recommend structuring the text of the manuscript by dividing it into sections.
2.4. Additional information (in Russian, English or both).
Information on conflicts of interest. Authors should disclose any potential conflict of interest related to the manuscript. A conflict of interest can be any situation (financial relationships, service or employment in institutions with a financial or political interest in the published material, job duties, etc.) that could affect the author of a manuscript so that it leads to the concealment, distortion or change of interpretation of the data. The presence of a conflict of interest on the part of one or more authors does NOT in itself constitute grounds for declining a manuscript. The concealment of a potential conflict of interest may lead to declining the manuscript.
Funding information. If the research was funded within the framework of a target project (for example, a research grant), it is necessary to indicate the source of funding (a foundation, a commercial or state organization, a private person, etc.). It is not necessary to specify the amount of funding.
2.5. References.
The list of References is compiled in Chicago citation style (https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html).
For any sources with non-Latin script titles used (e.g. titles in Russian, Greek, Arabic etc.) a Latin script equivalent is to be given immediately after it in the list of References.
See further in the bibliography design example.
2.6. Information about authors
For each author, the following should be provided:
— First name, Middle name(s) or Initial(s), Last Name (in that order).
